With a master’s degree in counseling psychology and more than a decade of experience coaching couples and individuals, Amanda May brings deep relational insight, emotional intelligence, and steady, compassionate guidance to her work at Nashville Relationship Experts.

Since 2014, Amanda has focused her coaching on the complexities of long-term relationships, especially those affected by emotional disconnection, infidelity, communication breakdowns, resentment, diminished intimacy, family dynamics, and difficult decisions about whether to stay or leave.

Amanda’s work is shaped by her ongoing study of healthy, lasting relationships, as well as the subtle patterns that often lead to relational breakdown. She helps clients better understand the emotional cycles, unmet needs, unspoken expectations, trust injuries, communication habits, resentment patterns, and protective responses that can quietly create distance between partners over time.

Her coaching style is warm, perceptive, and insight-driven. Amanda creates a space where clients can speak honestly, feel understood, and begin seeing their relationship with greater clarity. She helps couples slow down, identify what is happening beneath the surface, and work toward healthier communication, renewed trust, emotional reconnection, and deeper relational security.

In 2022, Amanda joined professional forces with her husband, Michael May, forming a distinctive husband-and-wife coaching team based in Middle Tennessee. Together, they help couples work through serious relationship strain, betrayal, affairs, emotional disconnection, communication breakdown, and difficult decisions about the future of their relationship.

Clients often describe Amanda’s coaching sessions as safe, energizing, and deeply clarifying, and many refer friends and family members after working with her. Amanda also provides one-on-one coaching for women navigating personal growth, relational clarity, life transitions, emotional healing, and the desire to show up with greater confidence, peace, and connection.

Michael May is a Certified Master Life Coaching Professional (MLCP) and Certified Behavioral Health Paraprofessional (BHPP) who brings cognitive-behavioral understanding, calm presence, grounded relationship insight, and real-world experience helping people navigate difficult decisions to Nashville Relationship Experts.

Michael’s coaching focuses on helping clients slow down, think clearly, separate facts from assumptions, understand emotional responses, and communicate with greater responsibility and intention. His work is especially valuable for couples and individuals facing serious relationship strain, betrayal, communication breakdown, emotional disconnection, and difficult questions about the future of their relationship.

Michael draws from cognitive-behavioral principles, rational self-examination, and practical coaching methods to help clients examine the meaning they assign to difficult situations and understand how thoughts, emotions, assumptions, and protective responses shape the way they relate to one another. His Behavioral Health Paraprofessional training adds a nuanced understanding of human behavior, emotional response, and relational dynamics to his coaching approach.

Before entering this work full time, Michael served 30 years in the military, culminating in senior command leadership as the 6th State Command Chief for the Indiana Air National Guard, U.S. Air Force. He also served in Tennessee state government executive leadership, including as Deputy Executive Director for the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). Those experiences shaped his ability to remain steady under pressure, listen carefully, navigate difficult conversations, and help people move from reaction toward thoughtful, responsible action.

After retiring from state government in 2021 and military service in 2022, Michael transitioned into the coaching work he now shares with his wife, Amanda. Together, they support couples and individuals working to rebuild trust, restore connection, strengthen communication, and make clearer decisions about the future of their relationships.

Michael is also the founder of Strategic Life Coaching for Men, where he provides private coaching for high-responsibility men navigating leadership demands, career transition, relationship strain, identity, purpose, and personal responsibility. Clients have described Michael’s work as “life changing” and a “game changer,” and his calm presence, directness, and relatable style make him a trusted guide for those ready to grow, reconnect, and rebuild.

Amanda and Michael met in 2008 at a cozy Nashville jazz bar restaurant. What began as dinner turned into a seven-hour first date and the beginning of a life they would build together.

They married in 2010 off the coast of a Caribbean island, surrounded by beauty, hope, and the belief that their love story was only beginning.

Their relationship has been filled with joy, closeness, growth, and love. It has also carried storms that could have ended their marriage. Through those difficult seasons, Amanda and Michael learned to lean in, be vulnerable, stay present, speak honestly, and find their way back to one another.

They learned that lasting love requires more than emotion. It requires humility, courage, forgiveness, communication, responsibility, and the willingness to see not only yourself, but the person beside you.

Every marriage is made of two unique, imperfect people. Some challenges are small. Others feel overwhelming. But Amanda and Michael believe a lifetime of love is worth fighting for when both people are willing to do the difficult work of rebuilding trust, restoring connection, and choosing each other again.

Through their own journey, their professional experience, and their work with couples, Amanda and Michael bring both compassion and hard-earned understanding to Nashville Relationship Experts.

Their hope is to be the experienced, steady guides for couples they wish they had during the hardest parts of their own story.
